Walk Through the Word 2026

Join us in 2026...
Most Christians know that time in Scripture is essential to spiritual growth. Many genuinely want to read the Bible each day but struggle to be consistent on their own. Even when we do read, it’s easy to feel lost, unsure how a passage fits into the bigger story of Scripture.

Recent research from Cardus Canada shows how common this struggle is. Only a small percentage of Canadian Christians read the Bible daily (29% of Evangelicals, 12% Mainline Protestant, 5% Roman Catholic), and many who begin with the goal of reading the entire Bible lose motivation along the way.

In 2026, Pastor Steve and Pastor James are calling the people of Banwell Community Church to Walk Through the Word together. This is an opportunity for us to journey through the whole Bible as one church—learning, growing, and aligning our lives around God’s Word. We believe this shared experience will be a powerful season of spiritual growth and unity. Our vision is for our whole church to literally be on the same page with God and one another in 2026.

Starting on January 1st 2026, we will follow a daily chronological Bible reading plan that takes us through the entire Bible in one year. Each week, our Sunday sermons and small groups will focus on the passages we are reading together, helping us understand the big picture and apply God’s truth to everyday life.

If this feels daunting, consider this: the average person spends 30% of their day at work or school, 30% in bed, 5% in the kitchen, 4% in the bathroom and about 14% on screen time. If you were to devote just 15 minutes each day to Walking in the Word, that is only about 1% of your day!

The Chronological Reading Plan

The chronological Bible reading plan arranges the events of Scripture in the order they actually happened in history. Rather than reading straight through from Genesis to Revelation, you follow the timeline of biblical history—reading connected events together as they unfold.

For example, when you read about David’s life in 1–2 Samuel, you will also read the Psalms he wrote during those seasons. When you read about the kings of Israel in 1–2 Kings, you will read the prophets who spoke into those same moments. And when you read the four Gospels, you’ll see how each writer describes the same events in Jesus’ ministry. The result is a clearer, more connected understanding of the Bible as one unfolding story of God’s redeeming work from beginning to end.

To help everyone stay on track in 2026, we have provided a free printed reading plan that can be inserted into your Bible. This plan also allows you to choose between two reading options:

  • Full Stream – A complete reading of the entire Bible

  • Focused Stream – A guided reading of about 50–60% of the Bible

For those who prefer everything organized for them, you may choose to purchase a One-Year Chronological Bible where each day’s readings are already arranged for you, so there’s no page-flipping required. These are available in several translations through bookstores or online, typically for around $30.

If you prefer to listen to an audio bible or read digitally, you can download the free YouVersion Bible App on your phone or device, select the chronological reading plan and follow each day.
